Clark W Fobes has lived and worked in San Francisco since 1981 as a professional orchestral clarinetist. A lover of many Art forms for all of his life, he did not start drawing until 2005 at age 52. Mr. Fobes studied figure drawing with Sharon Pearson for 4 years and eventually joined several professional drawing salons in San Francisco. In 2015 he joined the 23rd Street drawing studio where he met Michael Markowitz who encouraged the exploration of a much looser and gesture oriented style of figuration which led naturally into more abstract work. With the advent of the Covid Pandemic in 2020 and the loss of all musical work, Mr. Fobes began a more intense personal exploration of Abstraction and the use of vibrant colors. The essence of his work draws on the gesture and the interplay of color and emotion.
